Is the Bridge Broken?

Division. It is all around us. We have been dealing with division in some form pretty much since the beginning of time. It’s not a new concept and shouldn’t come across as a surprise to any of us. As humans, we all have opinions and preferences. Options are all around us because we all like different things. Coke/Pepsi, Red/White, Flip flops/Uggs Our differences make the world go around. Our differences have the ability to make us better people. There are so many things that I would have never been introduced to had I not been around people with differing opinions than I did. Yet, as I write this our differences are being seen in a different light. It is not safe to express an opinion that isn’t in line with the majority. We spew hate from all sides and don’t want to hear anything different from what we think. What is the answer? For years, I would say I longed for unity. But honestly, I don’t think that is what we need anymore. We don’t need to become robots that all feel the same way and don’t question what is presented to us. The best way to come together and bridge the divide is to come to a place where we allow each other to have different opinions. We need to stop lumping groups of people together. Evangelicals….Liberal…Progressive….Conservative…what happened to human? Get to know the individual. Stop making assumptions based on what you think someone is like and have a conversation. Peace does not come through everyone thinking the same way; it comes when we understand differing opinions are okay! Come out of your comfort zone. Let’s rebuild a bridge to each other.
